As the most populous city and an important commercial center,
Guayaquil is just big and modern. My favorite was Las Peñas (above), now an artisitic centre with galleries and studios. What impressed me the most was not Malecón 2000 (restoration project along the river), but the general good condition of the road. Roads in Manta are very badly-maintained, thanks to corruption I was told.
