Almost every backpacker I met on the way had this - there are of course many other guidebooks out there but Lonely Planet must be doing something right. So with "Sam Bone" (a bone-shaped travel pillow) and my (borrowed) backpack, I embarked on a trip to some countries in Latin America.
Starting the journey from Quito and Guayaquil, riots on the road in Northern Peru gave us a promising start; our bus was attacked and the glass window next to me shattered in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. The 24 hours bus journey turned into 52, with stops in Chiclayo and Trujillo, during which we had a chance to look around, without really knowing how long each stop would be each time.
