After an amazing road trip to Slovenia, Italy and Croatia, I landed in Quito. Quito from an aerial view is breath-taking. As one of the highest city in the world, it is built between the slope of Pichincha (an active stratovolcano in the Andes) and a cliff. The band of houses stretch endlessly, valleys after valleys. Quito has “the equator line”, churches with squeaky wooden floors and squares with a completely different flare than those in Europe. As the capital city, there are also landmarks like the house of the president, in which the resident often change - in the last 15 years, only one elected president has finished out his 4 years term. In the last ten years, Ecuador has had eight presidents.
